Enjoy your favorite audio outdoors with the black Definitive Technology AW5500 All-Weather Outdoor Speaker. Its PolyStone enclosure is designed to withstand the elements, allowing the 5.25" mid-woofer, 1" tweeter, and 5 x 8" passive mid-bass radiator to fill your outdoor area with enhanced sound quality. The included galvanized steel wall bracket lets you mount the speaker either horizontally or vertically, so you can direct the sound where you want it.
Pressure-Coupled, Mid-Bass Radiator
The AW5500 features a mid-bass radiator pressure-coupled to the BDSS mid-woofer on the opposite side of the cabinet to provide augmented bass in outdoor areas.
BDSS – Balanced Double Surround System
BDSS is designed to offer wide-bandwidth accurate frequency response, broad dispersion, low distortion, and enhanced detail for your music.
PolyStone Non-Resonant, All-Weather Enclosure
The AW5500 sports a fully sealed (air- and water-tight) design, aluminum grilles, and PolyStone enclosure, allowing it to be fully exposed to the elements without degradation over time.
Balanced Double Surrounds
The speaker's balanced double surrounds support the cone at two points to provide better mechanical stability for longer, more linear excursion, and augmented damping to help suppress parasitic cone resonance.
Mineral-Filled Polymer Cone
The mineral-filled polymer cone was engineered using 3D modeling to help provide wide range performance.
Waveguide
The cone's integrated waveguide is designed to smooth off-axis response for broad, even dispersion and enhanced imaging.
Vented Voice Coil
The driver's vented voice coil has been engineered to provide high power handling and quick transient response. It also helps to increase linearity and lower distortion.
Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
FEA helps the driver's magnetic system maximize magnetic flux in the gap to increase efficiency and linear excursion.
Die-Cast Alloy Basket
This basket design helps minimize ringing and vibration, while the open area minimizes back-wave reflection.
